In Castle Rock Season 2 Episode 6: “Mother,” Rita comes to town, and the plan of the resurrections begins to take shape.

Last week after learning about Annie’s past in Castle Rock Episode 5, I posed the question is Joy really Rita’s daughter and Annie’s half sister. As it turns out in Episode 6 I was proven right. Episode 6: “Mother” begins exactly where we left off last week. After the call from “Joy,” Rita tracks the number and arrives at Castle Rock.

The fallout from the truth of Pop Merrill’s past connection to Abdi and Nadia continues as Nadia kicks Abdi out of her house. One of the resurrections connected to the infamous Marsten house at the church goes wrong.

Actually, we discover that the resurrections are the spirits of some malevolent town folk that want a second chance at life. Apparently if their intended vessel isn’t pure, it doesn’t take.

This week’s best scene occurs at the Mellow Tiger with a drunken Annie and Ace talking about how she killed him. For some reason the spirits want to use Annie as a vessel for a very important person from their time.

Upon arrival to Castle Rock, Rita questions Chance about “Joy” whose real name is Angeline. We also find out Chance’s actual name is Georgia LaChance. This means she is in some way most likely related to Gordon “Gordie” LaChance of Stand By Me/The Body.

Rita is a recovering alcoholic who falls off the wagon after the stress of finding Annie and Angeline after all this time. After Angeline learns the truth, Annie gives her a letter to tell her side of the story. As Annie arrives home she’s confronted by a drunken Rita who broke in with a pistol.

She forces Annie out into the woods with the intent to kill her. However she hesitates on pulling the trigger. She misses her chance at revenge when Angeline shows up and injects her with the tranquilizer she previously used on Annie.

In a freak accident Rita drops the gun, it goes off shooting her in the stomach. Oddly enough the wound is located in the same place where Annie was stabbed and later left for dead. The cops arrive as Annie is trying to help Rita, and she takes the blame.

What will happen next is anyone’s guess. However, I’ve noticed in the opening credits you can get a glimpse of a more recent cover of the IT novel, so I’m assuming at some point there will be some references to Derry and our old pal Pennywise.

When will Annie discover her new new favorite writer, Paul Sheldon? Be here next week for the recap of the seventh episode of Castle Rock.
