8. Don’t Look Under the Bed (1999)

Don’t Look Under the Bed is my personal favorite on this list. I’ve watched this movie multiple times as a child and even more so as an adult. I’m happy that Disney Plus included it in their catalog so that even more people can watch it.

Frances Bacon McCausland doesn’t believe in the supernatural. That is until pranks start happening in the neighborhood, and she gets the blame for being the culprit. She is then introduced to Larry Houdini, an imaginary friend that wants to help take down the Boogeyman that lives under Frances’ bed.

Don’t Look Under the Bed is legitimately terrifying at times and heartbreaking at others. For being a movie made in the ’90s, the makeup effects are impressive. Plus, there’s a The Shining reference which always adds bonus points.

7. Phantom of the Megaplex (2000)

Phantom of the Megaplex is a very loose retelling of The Phantom of the Opera. In fact, as the introduction of the Disney Channel Original plays, so does the infamous organ music from the 1925 film. There are other nods to this film, such as photographs of Lon Chaney in The Phantom of the Opera.

The main character, Pete Riley, is the assistant manager at a local 26-screen multiplex theater. On premiere night of the fictional film, Midnight Mayhem, things go amiss at the theater and all fingers point to the phantom that supposedly haunts the megaplex.

It’s up to Pete to get things under control. All while keeping an eye on his younger siblings and flirting with his crush who he scored movie tickets for.
