2020 is shaping up to be a great year for horror. From The Conjuring 3 to The Grudge, here are 18 movies we can’t wait to see.

Another year is almost over and that means it’s time to start preparing for the next 365 days. Horror fans should get excited because 2020 has quite the assortment of highly-anticipated new movies on its roster. Many are sequels to popular franchises such as long-waited Conjuring 3 or Halloween Kills.

We’ll also be getting another Jordan Peele film when Candyman finally releases. Check out our complete list to see some of the biggest horror movies releasing next year!

The following list is in no particular order.

18. The Grudge

  • Director: Nicolas Pesce
  • Starring: Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver

Synopsis: The Grudge is a reboot of the iconic film of the same name. What originated as a Japanese horror film called Ju-On: The Grudge, has created its own legacy here in America. The first American remake of Ju-On, released in 2004, is still often cited as one of the scariest movies. Despite only receiving a PG-13 rating, it managed to stick with people

The new version of The Grudge is reportedly much scarier and gorier than the 2004 version. That’s to be expected, considering Sam Raimi is involved this time around and the movie managed to secure an R-rating. The story will follow Riseborough’s character, Detective Muldoon, as she investigates a haunted house in her neighborhood.

Muldoon learns that anyone who steps foot inside the home will be cursed with a violent death. She must try and stop it before it kills her and her family.

Release Date: January 3

17. Escape Room 2

  • Director: Adam Robitel
Starring: Holland Roden, Isabelle Fuhrman, Indya Moore, Logan Miller, Taylor Russell, Thomas Cocquerel, and Carlito Olivero

Synopsis: The first Escape Room followed a group of strangers being thrown together to take part in a dangerous new escape room experience. Only two members of the original group survive and they make it their mission to stop the entire evil corporation behind the escape rooms.

We don’t know much about the second Escape Room yet beyond the cast, which was recently announced. Although both Taylor Russell and Logan Miller are returning.

Release Date: August 14
