2. Underwater

  • Director: William Eubank
  • Starring: Vincent Cassel, Jessica Henwick, Mamoudou Athie, Kristen Stewart, T.J. Miller, and John Gallagher Jr.

Synopsis: Take Alien and set it underwater, you’ve got the basic plot of the aptly titled Underwater. The trailer for the film makes it look like an extremely tense new creature feature. Plus, it comes out in January which means we don’t have to wait long for the release!

The story revolves around a crew of underwater researchers who journey down to the ocean floor only to have their rig attacked by some sort of monstrous being dwelling in the deep. At one point, they’re forced to walk across the abyss that is the oceanic bottom, and not everyone will make it out alive.

Release Date: January 10

1. Candyman

  • Director: Nia DaCosta
  • Starring: Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Tony Todd

Synopsis: While this spiritual sequel to the original Candyman is being regarded as a “Jordan Peele film” the movie is actually not directed by the acclaimed director. Instead, it will be directed by Nia DaCosta.

DaCosta previously wrote and directed this year’s drama film, Little Woods. It’s always exciting to see more women directors, especially on prominent horror projects. Peele will write the film. As is typical of Peele’s films, we don’t know much about the film’s plot. I’m sure more details will come out as we inch closer to the summer release date.

Release Date: June 12
