Space Is the Place

1428 Elm: You did a stint on The Mandalorian. I know you are a Star Wars fan, so that must have been like a dream come true. How did you get involved?

Mike Estes: I got a call and I was drinking coffee out of a Star Wars Stormtrooper mug that Cerina got me. The call happened to be from a coordinator that I had worked with before.

He said, hey we have this gig if you’re up for it. So, I asked what is it? He said I can’t really tell you what it is because its so top secret.

I knew this guy for a while so I told him, sure, yeah. He asked me if I could come in for a fitting. I said sure what’s the wardrobe. He couldn’t tell me that either.

Cerina walked in and I had this weird feeling so I mouthed to her I think its Star Wars. It ended up being The Mandalorian. I got to be in the Star Wars universe so it was a childhood bucket list check.

More from 1428 Elm

1428 Elm: What can you tell us about Space Force, the Steve Carell/Greg Daniels production that you are working on?

Mike Estes: I did a small, little deal on Space Force. I was lucky to be a part of it. Keep your eyeballs peeled for that one. It was very cool working with those guys.

I met Steve Carell at Craft service. He was super sweet and nice and lived up to the expectation that I had of him.

1428 Elm: Do you have any other projects coming out that you want people to be aware of?

Mike Estes: I have a movie coming out called Hanukkah with the late, great Sid Haig and the late, great Dick Miller. Both of them were beautiful individuals and wonderful guys. That’s coming out in December 2020.

There is also a little movie I shot with Bruce a while back called Highly Functional.

1428 Elm: When is that coming out, Mike? Bruce’s fans really want to see it.

Mike Estes: You know it got hung up on something. They are working on things. There might be a release date in the future. It was a cool part and some fun stuff with Bruce in there.

I have Picard coming up for Star Trek fans. I might be starting a new punk band with some friends in L.A. Might have some tunes coming out as well. I’m always hustling…
