5. The Strangers Prey at Night

The Strangers was a home invasion film released in 2008, and put a young couple played by Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman through hell, as they were stalked by three masked killers. Ten years later, a sequel featuring the same three masked baddies (Pinup Girl, Dollface and the Man in the Mask) was released.

Once again, the three are stalking and hunting with the intent to kill, except this time they take on a family after killing residents of a small trailer park. This movie is not set during Thanksgiving, but it’s about a family coming together, so we will call it close enough.

Mike and Cindy are travelling with their teenage son Luke and daughter Kinsey on a short vacation before sending the troubled Kinsey to a boarding school. Guess where they are headed? To their Aunt and Uncle’s trailer park. Uh-oh!

Though the relationship between parents and kids is pretty strained, we find out that nothing brings a family together like being hunted like animals. Though Prey at Night is not quite as compelling as The Strangers, it is still very watchable, and there is an absolutely awesome showdown in a neon-lit swimming pole that makes this film worth the price of subscribing to Amazon Prime.

The Strangers Prey at Night features Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson, Bailee Madison and Lewis Pullman as the hunted family. Fun fact: Pullman, who plays Luke, is the son of actor Bill Pullman.
