1. Pumpkinhead (1988)

When thinking up a list of Thanksgiving flicks, there’s one film that really screams out at me: Pumpkinhead. Sure, this movie doesn’t revolve around the holiday, but it does provide the viewer with major Autumn vibes.

After Ed Harley’s (Lance Henrikson) son dies in a hit-and-run, he seeks revenge on the teenagers he holds responsible. Enter: Pumpkinhead, a vengeful entity that Ed summons in order to kill the teenagers. After realizing there’s a bond between Pumpkinhead and himself, he quickly begins to regret his decision of summoning the demon.

Contrary to his namesake, Pumpkinhead does not have the head of a pumpkin. Instead, he resembles an alien from the Alien franchise. This model appearance is due to the fact that it was created by Stan Winston, the designer of the Alien Queen in Aliens. Pumpkinhead simply received his name based on his large-sized head and the fact that he was buried in a pumpkin patch.

Pumpkinhead makes a perfect Thanksgiving watch. Not only because of the setting but because it shows how far a father will go to exact revenge on the people who caused his son’s death. Love and family are such powerful driving forces for a lot of our actions, so it’s no surprise that this concept plays out in a lot of horror movies.
