The Grudge

What better way to ring in the new decade with the Sam Raimi produced Nicolas Pesce directed The Grudge? Set to hit theaters on January 3, this reboot of Ghost House Pictures popular franchise from the 2000’s is definitely harder edged.

Some stellar names are attached to this film including horror legend, Lin Shaye, Star Trek’s John Cho, Mandy’s Andrea Riseborough, The Nun’s Demián Bichir and Perpetual Grace, LTD.’s Jacki Weaver. From what we can see from the trailer, everyone brings their A game and the atmosphere is definitely ominous.

Raimi fans will notice hints of Drag Me to Hell and Evil Dead in certain scenes. For those who are interested in the paranormal, The Grudge explores the residual energy that lingers after someone dies particularly if the death was violent in nature.

Expect to be scared because this is an R-rated film so Pesce isn’t holding anything back. Those audience members that enjoyed the original trilogy will not be disappointed but bear in mind while the roots are there, The Grudge is definitely its own film.

According to Sam in an interview at New York Comic Con, “It’s not really laid out like a simple horror film. It is a challenging puzzle for the audience to really put together.” We think this sounds like a box office hit, if you ask us.
