Evil Season 1, Episode 9 Recap: 5 key moments
2. Andy offers to stay home with the girls while Kristen climbs Mount Everest
In the previous episode of Evil, Andy Bouchard had returned home from his climbing expedition. This episode picks up right where it left off; Kristen being surprised by her husband’s return.
Throughout the season, I found it difficult to tell what Kristen thought about her mountain-climbing husband. Of course, Evil made it quite clear that she was attracted to David; so maybe Kristen and Andy’s marriage lost its spark?
Yet, with the two together in this episode and the possible chemistry between David and Renée, it’s hard to know what to think about David and Kristen’s potential future. I doubt they’d set the co-workers up for so long, only to erase it with Andy and Renée’s return. But it does seem that we’ll have to wait even longer for the two to be together.
Andy and Kristen’s journey through this episode ends with Andy surprising his wife with a gift — the chance to return to climbing while he stays home with the girls. On the surface, this seems to be a kind gesture, but is there more to it? Andy showed evident jealousy when he asked Kristen about ‘Magnificent Ben’. Maybe, in his mind, this is his way of keeping Kristen and Ben apart.
1. What’s with the cat?
My biggest question from this episode is what is up with that cat? She (because according to Kristen’s daughter all cats are girls) randomly appears in a laundry basket; snuggled into the hoodie that Kristen borrowed from David.
Now, I’m a big fan of cats that just move in on their own accord. However, this particular cat is jam-packed with attitude. As soon as Kristen comes into view, the cat starts to growl and hiss. And the cat was clearly not fond of David’s hoodie being removed from her resting place.
Us cat people are well-aware that cats come with an attitude. It’s a simple fact of life, and maybe that’s one of the reasons why we adore them so much. But there’s definitely something more to this particular cat.
Due to the content of Evil, I don’t think it’s so far-fetched to believe that there’s more to this cat than it just moving in with an automatic dislike for Kristen. Are demonic forces at play? Does this have anything to do with David Acosta? Hopefully, this is something we’ll discover in the season finale.
