Scream 5 is officially in the works but we have no idea who, if any, of the original cast members will return. David Arquette has hopes he’ll be invited.

During a recent chat with Movie Web, David Arquette disclosed some ideas he has about how his beloved character Dewey Riley could return for Scream 5.

Last month we reported that Scream 5 was officially in the works from Spyglass Media. Thus far, we don’t know anything about the project beyond the fact that it does indeed exist. Rumors about a potential Scream 5 have been swirling around Hollywood for several years. Most of them came to a halt when Wes Craven, the franchise creator, sadly passed away.

Now Scream 5 is back on the table for real and fans want to know who is returning. Will Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette reprise their fan-favorite roles as Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Sheriff Dewey Riley?

Cox posted a fun shout-out to her character Gale on her Instagram recently and now Arquette is chiming in on the possibility of coming back.

According to the actor, he has not been contacted about returning for the new film yet. However, he says he’d be happy to return and continue Craven’s legacy. He hopes that there will be more Screams in the future.

Movie Web reporter Ryan Scott also asked Arquette what he imagined Dewey would be doing at this point in his life.

"“I guess maybe he’d be almost ready for retirement. I don’t know if he would still be together with Gale. There was a lot of interesting stuff that we were pitching to Wes [Craven] for Scream 4 that didn’t really happen.”"

Among some of the “interesting stuff,” he mentions is a child with Gale. He says it would have been interesting due to the fact Arquette and Cox actually did have a kid in real life and they met on-set.

Arquette went on to say he liked the cat-and-mouse nature of their relationship and would “love to see it [their relationship] have some stakes to it.” He would like to go back to the early days of their relationship where there were some real sparks between them.
