Say What?: 10 worst lines ever spoken in horror movies
6. “This is for Jen, this is for Rudy, for all of them.” — Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
Oy vey. Sara’s chainsaw attack on Michael is an ineffective moment, and it’s not just because of the chainsaw running out of gas. It’s because of this terrible, terrible line. She can barely lift the chainsaw, but to make matters worse, her attacker could easily take her down because of the time she wastes in between hits.
“This is for Jen (skip a beat) This is for..” Michael could easily figure out and anticipate when she’ll be aiming it at him again and, as she does, he could get the jump on her. It’s a forced line and doesn’t add anything aside from reminding the audience what two of the annoying character’s names are.
7. “F*** Bruce Willis.” — Scream 4 (2011)
In perhaps the entire film franchise’s history, Deputy Perkins has one of the worst lines, so far. It feels so out-of-place and unfitting for a Scream movie. He says the line right as he’s about to die, which takes away from any sense of realism. He and his coworker discuss movies and how cops typically die, unless they’re Bruce Willis. For some reason, this is the last thought Perkins has.
Horror movies can have funny moments in them, and if often helps you care about the characters a little more. However, the desperate attempt at getting a laugh out of the audience makes this so incredibly awful, it’s almost too distracting.
8. “Trick or treat, motherf*****” — Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
Oh, shut up. Yes, another case of a character having absolutely no decent dialogue whatsoever. Believe me, it was hard to narrow it down with Freddie, but this one is probably the most cringe-inducing. Just as Michael is about to off our final girl, Freddie busts in through the garage door and awkwardly shouts this line.
It’s one of the moments where, for some peculiar reason, the filmmakers don’t know what to do, but they desperately want you to know something’s about to go down. And for better or worse, it did. Freddie saves the final girl.
9. “Watch out for the Bogeyman” — Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
Beth and Tim go back to his house, waiting for Barry to arrive for his live show. In the meantime, they decide that they’re in the mood and head for Kara’s bedroom. On their way, Beth decides to give Tim a bit of a history lesson of the Myers house. Knowing the history of what happened there, and deciding to have sex in Tim’s sister’s bed, isn’t enough for these two to seal their fates.
Deciding on a post-coital shower, Tim motions towards the door, leaving Beth with this horrible line. Now, it sounds like she’s trying to be sexy or cute, but it comes off more as someone just mocking the town’s inability to move past its murderous mascot, Michael Myers.
10. “Andy, please, I was only playing.” — Child’s Play 2 (1990)
Chucky is a fun character, but some of the franchise’s worst lines come from him. After two films of killing people Andy knows, Chucky desperately utters this line as if though he still has a shot at getting through to Andy. Maybe he believes kids are stupid, but being that Kyle is right there beside Andy, this makes less sense.
The line is kind of funny, I’ll give you that, but hearing the antagonist in a horror movie plead for their life is usually unappealing in that it takes away from whether or not you’re actually affected by them.
I love horror movies, and I enjoy most of the ones featured on this list. However, whether or not a movie is good doesn’t mean every single line is going to be. That stated, it was hard to put down just 10 of these.
