All things horror releasing in January 2020

Between new movies like The Grudge and Underwater, plus new television series like The Outsider, January 2020 is shaping up to be a great one for horror.

Christmas is almost upon us and that means New Years is right around the corner. With the year coming to a close, it’s time to look forward to what 2020 has in store. If you feared you would have to wait a while for new horror content to come your way, then you’re in luck.

There are some great new horror movies releasing in January along with a couple of new television shows on Shudder and HBO!

The Outsider

  • Release Date: January 12

The Outsider is an upcoming HBO miniseries based on the Stephen King book of the same name. The series stars Jason Bateman, Cynthia Erivo, and Ben Mendelson.

It centers around the gruesome murder of a young boy by a police detective, but it soon becomes clear that there is much more to the case than meets the eye. The first two episodes will premiere on January 12, 2020.

The Marshes

  • Release Date: January 9 on Shudder

The Marshes is an upcoming Shudder exclusive release about a strange and mysterious marshland on the verge of being eliminated.

The film follows a doctor named Pria Anan who hopes to save it from extinction. She and her team do everything they can to prevent it from disappearing until they encounter a force that can manifest their fear into horrifying evil.

The Turning

  • Release Date: January 24

The Turn of the Screw by Henry James is all the rage right now considering this is one of three upcoming adaptations. The Haunting of Bly Manor and an upcoming Quibi horror show will also take inspiration from the classic book.

The Turning stars Stranger Things‘ actor Finn Wolfhard, Mackenzie Davis, and Brooklynn Prince.

Davis portrays a nanny who must look after two orphans a secluded estate. While there, she begins to realize that something is terribly wrong about the old manor and the children who reside inside.


  • Release Date: January 24

Run is a new thriller about a young woman who has lived in isolation for her entire life. But all of that changes when she learns a dark secret about her mother. If you liked the movie Searching starring John Cho, you’ll want to check this one out as it comes from the same producing team.

Sarah Paulson stars. However, even though the release date is set for January 24, it is strange we haven’t received a trailer yet it is possible the date could be pushed back but keep an eye out!
