Dracula recap: 5 surprising twists from premiere episode
By Verona Jones
1. Jonathan Harker is turned into one of the undead
This was, by far, a major twist in the story. In all the movies and the novel, Jonathan Harker is a major character. He is the narrator of the story in the book and the link between Dracula and Mina. Plus, he is a major hunter of Dracula in the novel, so it is a significant change in the story when Harker is made into one of the undead and used by the vampire to gain entrance into the convent.
Our deadly hero liked Harker so much that he made Harker into one of his brides, which is a new concept different than Bram Stoker had in mind for Harker. Our count is bisexual, which is slightly different than his character in the novel or movies. The only problem with making Harker his bride, is that the process turned him into an undead person. This way, he could control him easily and make Harker do things he usually wouldn’t do.
That is how Dracula was able to enter the convent. Harker invited him into the convent under the impression that Dracula would kill him for real and put him out of his misery. Instead, Dracula became Harker and proceeded to kill all the nuns before attacking Mina and Sister Agatha.
Three episodes of Dracula available to stream on Netflix.
