The Howling reboot in the works at Netflix, IT director Andy Muschietti to helm it
By Mads Lennon
IT Chapter One and Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti is reportedly in early talks to direct Netflix’s upcoming reboot of The Howling.
Andy Muschietti, best known for directing both Chapter One and Chapter Two of IT, has reportedly been tapped to direct a reboot of The Howling for Netflix.
Keep in mind that Deadline reports this news is in the very early stages. The reboot has not officially been given the green light by the streaming service as they have “yet to clear the chain of title on the IP rights.”
However, this isn’t an altogether surprising choice considering Muschietti has been vocal about wanting to direct a remake of The Howling. He first floated the idea last summer while attending a comic-con. Bill Hader, the star of IT: Chapter Two, was 100 percent behind the decision.

Muschietti has proven an effective horror director, the IT franchise was the most lucrative franchise of the 2010s, earning more than $1 billion at the box office. IT: Chapter One was the highest-earning horror film, raking in over $700 million worldwide.
For those who are unfamiliar with The Howling, the original 1981 film starred Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, Dennis Dugan, Christopher Stone, and Belinda Balaski, based on the novel of the same name.
It followed a newswoman, Karen White, who is stalked by a serial killer named Eddie Quist. Of course, all is not as it initially seems at the beginning of the film. The Howling is one of the most popular werewolf movies of all time and helped popularize the monster in pop culture and in Hollywood, alongside other films like An American Werewolf in London.
Since the remake is not yet officially confirmed, it’s unlikely that we’ll see it premiere on Netflix for at least another year.
