After months of anticipation, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels finally has an official trailer and a premiere date on Showtime.

Fans of the original Penny Dreadful have been waiting for an official trailer for the upcoming spin-off, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, since the series was announced early last year. It seems like it has taken forever, but hopefully, all the waiting will be worth it.

Showtime has officially released the new trailer for the series along with a release date. You can watch the show on April 26 at 10:00 p.m. ET on the premium cable channel. That’s much earlier than we were anticipating, which is a nice surprise.

We’ve been reporting on all the casting news for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels for some time now. The show will star several familiar faces such as Natalie Dormer, Nathan Lane, and Rory Kinnear (who is returning from the original).

The trailer shows Natalie Dormer’s character, a demon named Magda, at the front and center. Her sister is the infamous deity known as Santa Muerte. The two square up for a face-off by the end, with Magda believing humans are inherently corrupt while Santa Muerte believes they have innate goodness inside of them.

The central storyline will be set in 1930s Los Angeles, following Tiago Vega (David Zavatto) a new detective in the LAPD. It looks like a murder related to Día de Muertos will kickstart the series, as is evidenced by the opening moments of the trailer.

Already, it appears that City of Angels will have a decidedly different tone to the its parents series, but we’re excited to see what it has to offer.
