Evil Season 1, Episode 12: 4 Key moments
Evil’s newest episode brings back a familiar face and delivers an epic showdown between Kristen and Leland. Here are four key moments from “Justice x 2!”
In Evil’s pre-season finale, we find David suffering again because apparently the last two episodes didn’t cause enough damage for him. We also see Orson Leroux, our convicted serial killer that originally brought the gang together in episode one, make a comeback. And, we learn more about the forensic psychologist, Leland. Here are four moments in Evil‘s “Justice x 2” that has us excited for what’s to come in the series finale.
David finds himself in danger.. again
Does David ever just get to chill? Our priest-in-training is once again in the lair of danger. “Justice x 2” starts off at a stand-up comedy show. After Lando does his schtick, he’s met with Sonia who seems to be a fan of his act. However, this is all a set-up and things quickly get messy for the comedian.
Sonia invites him back to her place, only to knock him out and tie him in the basement. She then calls David to ask him to call and advise her because she’s been hearing voices; voices that are telling her to kill. David arrives on his own, and is, unfortunately, also knocked out and tossed into the basement.
We then soon discover that the reason behind her distaste for Lando is due to the Rwandan Genocide. Sonia was an immigrant who survived, whereas Lando made jokes via radio, comparing Tutsis to cockroaches.
Throughout the torturing of Lando, David is trying his best to convince her to stop, and also screaming for help from any outside source. Unfortunately, the only thing to stop Sonia is getting her revenge on Lando; which she does, and then calls the police on herself. Thankfully, David makes it out to see another day.
Leland helps get Orson off the hook
Orson Leroux makes his return in this week’s episode of Evil. With the help of Leland, Orson is preparing to get out of prison. We see Dwight Ferrell confessing for the murders that our convicted serial killer was originally charged for. Kristen, in attempts to help D.A. Cormie, testifies, but that only makes things worse, and Orson ends up being released.
Following the trial, Leland takes this time to boast about Kristen’s failure and to threaten to murder Kristen’s family. Clearly, our psychologist has had enough of Leland, because she follows up by letting him know she figured out exactly who he is.
Leland is actually Jake Perry, an insurance adjuster from Des Moines who’s gone through two marriages. How did Jake become Leland, the forensic psychologist, and what was his original motive? Hopefully, we learn more in the next episode!
Laura has emergency heart surgery
It’s time. Kristen and Andy’s youngest daughter, Laura, is rushed to the hospital for emergency heart surgery. This health concern has been building up throughout the season, but we haven’t heard it mentioned in the last few episodes.
Andy attempts to reach Kristen but is unable to do so because she’s trying to keep a convicted serial killer behind bars. So of course, his first thought is that maybe Ben, who he seems to be very jealous of, can reach her instead.
Ben does, but only because he finds her at work to let her know what is happening. Upon reaching the hospital, Kristen hears her daughters chanting — something they saw their father do, as he’s been recently practicing Buddhism.
The doctor tells Kristen and Andy that Laura’s heart has completely healed; something that he can’t explain the reasoning behind. It seems as if it’s a miracle, especially after Andy tells Kristen that the chant he was doing was to basically exchange his life for his daughter’s. Does this mean we’ll see Andy’s death soon? Especially after Leland has already threatened Kristen’s family?
Leland’s therapist
In bizarre fashion, we are introduced to Leland’s therapist. Leland is telling someone off-screen about the showdown between himself and Kristen, and how she figured out who he was and made him feel impotent. The camera then zooms out to show us that Leland’s therapist is actually a horned-beast. Is it the devil himself? Or one of the devil’s minions? Or is this all just a figment of Leland’s imagination? It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s not in Evil.
