3. Let the Right One In (2008)

Directed by Tomas Alfredson

Starring Lina Leandersson and Kare Hedebrant

Don’t worry, there are no more vampires beyond this point, and you loved the vampire entries, then sorry but this is the last one. There can only be so many. However, I saved the best for last with the 2008 international horror hit, Let the Right One In, which I personally consider to be the best vampire movie ever made simply due to the simplicity of the story and the heart it contains. It’s a grim look at a blossoming relationship in a lower class section of Sweden in the 1980s and it’s the perfect mixture of dark and satisfying.

The vampire in question here is Eli, a 12-year-old girl living with her guardian in the same apartment building as Oskar, a meek boy who is the victim of relentless bullying. The two strike up a friendship that blooms into a young romance as the two get adjusted to being this close to each other as Eli survives by feeding on nearby townsfolk.

Somber, yet oddly charming with the chemistry of the two leads, this Swedish vampire drama is equal parts disturbing and heartwarming, making for a wonderful experience and one that can be had on really any movie night with your partner.
