15 most romantic horror movies of all-time
By Wesley Lara
12. Warm Bodies (2013)
Directed by Jonathan Levine
Starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, and Dave Franco
In many ways, Warm Bodies is perhaps the easiest film to digest on this list, partially because it’s much more of a romantic comedy than anything horror-related. The zombie portion is really there to enhance the comedy rather than provide genuine terror to audiences. Still, to ignore the cute hybrid of the zombie and romantic genres would be discounting the attempts made to make a unique horror-comedy hybrid with an intriguing premise that I’m surprised hasn’t been explored as often.
Told from the perspective of a young zombie named R, Warm Bodies goes full-on mainstream American romantic comedy as R begins to fall in love with a human (gasp!), leading to the age-old tale of a forbidden love blooming without boundaries.
Is it super cheesy and cliché like most romantic comedies? Absolutely. But you can’t deny the mix of zombies being a refreshing take on the rom-com. There’s another zombie rom-com that does it better (we’ll talk about that one later), but don’t ignore Warm Bodies for your next romantic movie night.
