The highly-anticipated new Saw film finally received its first official teaser trailer. Here’s everything we noticed in the Spiral trailer.

Since it was announced that comedian Chris Rock would try his hand at the ninth official film in the Saw franchise, fans have been eagerly awaiting any news about what the movie would be about. Finally, we have the official teaser trailer for Spiral: From the Book of Saw, and it looks quite different from what we’ve seen before.

For starters, there is currently no sign of the infamous Billy the Puppet. That doesn’t mean he won’t be in the movie at all, but Spiral looks to be moving in a new direction. Considering this is the ninth movie in the series, that’s not a bad idea.

Aside from Rock, the film will also star Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, and Marisol Nichols. Darren Lynn Bousman returns to the Saw franchise to direct.

More from Horror Movies

The teaser begins with Rock and Minghella’s characters talking in their squad car. The two appear to be detectives on a case when they get a call about an officer being down.

They find a grisly scene on top of railroad (subway?) tracks, and we hear Det. Banks say, “whoever did this has another motive; they’re targeting cops.”

As for other things we noticed?

  • Det. Banks receives a package at his office, it looks like he could be getting targeted directly or an ominous and likely bloody gift was delivered to the precinct to “send a message.”
  • At 1:09 of the trailer, Jackson’s character walks down a dark tunnel toward someone or something sitting in a chair, could it be a new puppet?
  • It seems like the subway tunnels will be important; they appear multiple times.
  • We get a quick glimpse of a terrifying new trap involving a face mask and something involving a lot of wires attached to the victim’s fingertips.
