Se7en was one of the best horror movies of the 90’s in our humble opinion. The idea of a serial killer who targets his victims based on what deadly sin they personify is original and a stroke of genius. In the hands of David Fincher, it is an absolute masterpiece.
That being said, let’s take a look at some of the other cult classics turning 25 this year.
Se7en
Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt star in this dark, gritty chiller about a serial killer who commits murders based on the works of Thomas Aquinas. When prominent citizens end up meeting their untimely demises according to which deadly sins they have violated, Detectives Somerset and Mills race against time to bring this diabolical mastermind to justice.

Copycat
Sigourney Weaver plays against type as a psychologist who is agoraphobic in this taut thriller. Helen Hudson has made her name as a serial killer specialist. After she testifies against a murderer, he tries to take her life.
After the incident, she becomes a recluse and is never seen in public. When victims start piling up in San Francisco, Detective M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) enlists her help to track a deviant psychopath who copycats prominent serial killers.

The Prophecy
Did someone say Christopher Walken? We are huge fans of this actor at 1428 Elm. Walken portrays the archangel Gabriel in this terrifying effort from Gregory Widen. Except he isn’t as benevolent as the Bible would have everyone believe.
His seraph is hellbent on stopping a war in Heaven and in order to do so, he must collect the evil soul of a Korean War veteran. However, standing in his way is Detective Thomas Dagget, a former priest who has lost his faith. Will Gabriel succeed or will he bring the chaos to Earth?

The Addiction
This black and white indie film from Abel Ferrara is visually arresting and visceral. The brilliant character actress, Lili Taylor stars as Kathleen Conklin, a philosophy graduate student who is “kissed” one night by vampire Casanova (Annabella Sciorra).
Her world gets turned upside down as her craving for blood becomes stronger and stronger. As she claims her victims, she begins to loathe herself and tries to end her existence. Does she succeed or does she find redemption?

Dolores Claiborne
In a tour de force performance, Kathy Bates portrays the title role in this Taylor Hackford adaptation of Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name. When she is convicted of murdering her elderly employer, her estranged daughter Selena (Jennifer Jason Leigh), who is a well-known journalist shows up to cover the trial.
During the course of her research into her mother’s case, Selena comes face to face with her disturbing past and what led her to leave her hometown behind.
