Polaroid is Netflix’s latest addition to its collection of horror movies streaming. Yet, with all the other horror movies streaming, is Polaroid worth watching?

I love horror movies, and I loved Polaroid. It’s getting hard to find an excellent scary horror movie. I am not into hardcore gore and slasher-type films, which is the norm lately. I like scary movies that build tension and make you sit on the edge of your seat.

Polaroid is one of those types of horror movies that will grab your attention hold it captive to the end. The 2019 feature film is adapted from the director Lars Klevberg’s 2015 short horror film of the same name. Here are three reasons why you should take a peek at it for yourself.

3. The storyline

I think there has been a horror film made on just about every popular urban legend and mythological creature in existence. Vampires, Werewolves, and even possessed dolls, to name a few, but this is an original storyline.

In this case, the story centers around a haunted antique polaroid. When a picture is taken, a shadowy figure appears in the photo along with the person.  After the person dies mysteriously. The mysterious figure disappears out of the old shot and into the new snapshot taken.

2. Well-developed characters

The characters in Polaroid are believable, and unlike most characters in horror films, they don’t make stupid decisions. Bird Fitcher (Kathryn Prescott) is a loner and trying to recover from a horrible accident that killed her father. She is more perceptive and aware of the paranormal then many her age and quickly grasps that the camera is haunted.

She tries to trace the history of the camera to see if she can find out why it’s haunted and maybe stop the shadowy figure. Unfortunately, because she is so young, the adults in the movie don’t believe her.

1. The movie is truly frightening

The most important reason to watch Polaroid is that it is a tremendous hair-raising movie. What I loved most about this movie is that it used music and suspense to build a terrifying tension. You get only glimpses of the shadowy figure. Relying on the actor’s scared reactions to get a sense of what the dark figure was doing.

Lars Klevber did a fantastic job creating a great movie that is worth watching in the dark with a friend.
