Women in Horror month might be nearing its end, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to check out these women-directed films.

February is one of my all-time favorite months. Not only do I get to splurge on the discounted post Valentine’s Day candy, but I also get to see so many wonderful women highlighted throughout Women in Horror Month.

Celebrating its eleventh year, Women in Horror Month‘s goal is to promote the underrepresented work of women in the genre. Women have contributed so much to the horror, and the movies listed in this post only touches the tip of the iceberg. I not only strongly recommend checking out all of the films mentioned, but to also dive deeper into your exploration throughout the year.

8. American Mary (2012)

  • Directed by: Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska
  • Watch it on: Tubi

The Soska sisters, also known as the Twisted Twins, are no strangers to horror. After releasing their independent flick, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, the duo started receiving recognition from directors such as Eli Roth.

Jen and Slyvia Soska followed their debut with American Mary starring Katharine Isabelle. It’s this film that put the Soska sisters on horror fans’ radars. American Mary follows medical student, Mary Mason, who ends up diving into the world of underground surgeries.

American Mary is a genre-bending film that even Clive Barker says is amazing. Perfect for fans of body horror, revenge horror, and awesome women.
