A sequel to the beloved 1993 Disney film Hocus Pocus is officially in the works for Disney Plus, here’s everything we know so far!

Previously, 1428 Elm reported that a sequel to Hocus Pocus was in the works that would potentially include the return of original cast members Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. Now we know who will direct the film and even more details about the highly-anticipated new film!

The original actresses are not confirmed to return yet

As we mentioned in our previous article, the Sanderson sisters are all interested in returning. Parker made a post on her Instagram account, saying each actress had said “yes,” however the latest Variety article indicates that no official contracts have been signed.

Disney is reportedly hoping that they will reprise their roles in some capacity, so they don’t have to do a complete reboot.

It will premiere on Disney Plus

For starters, it’s important to know where Hocus Pocus 2 will be available to watch. It won’t be going to theaters. Instead, Disney has opted to make the film for its new streaming service, Disney Plus. Hopefully, the film won’t take long to make as Disney’s streaming service is struggling to find new content.

The company recently stalled production on its Lizzie McGuire revival and moved its Love, Simon sequel series to Hulu, citing the shows as being too mature for their service. Let’s hope the same thing doesn’t happen with Hocus Pocus 2.

Adam Shankman will direct

According to the Variety article, director Adam Shankman will direct the movie. He is also set to direct Disney’s upcoming Enchanted sequel, Disenchanted, but it’s not clear which movie will be filmed first.

Shankman’s previous credits include Step Up, Hairspray, A Walk to Remember, and What Men Want.
