Clint Eastwood: The Beguiled
In this 1971 effort directed by Don Siegel, Clint is an injured Union soldier named John McBurney. He finds himself seeking refuge at a posh Confederate school for girls. Geraldine Page plays the sexually frustrated head mistress, Martha. When John uses his charms on two of her students and spurns her advances, he finds out what hell is like on earth.
Michael Douglas: Coma
Michael Crichton (yes, the Jurassic Park novelist) helmed this horror thriller based on Robin Cook’s bestseller. Dr. Susan Wheeler (Genevieve Bujold) discovers that there is a weird number of comas occurring at her hospital. Together with Dr. Mark Bellows (Michael Douglas), the two stumble upon a deadly conspiracy.
Harvey Keitel: Two Evil Eyes
This 1990 series was based on Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories and directed by two masters of the horror genre, George A. Romero and Dario Argento. Harvey Keitel plays sleazy, crime scene photographer, Roderick Usher in “The Black Cat” segment of this anthology. He murders his girlfriend’s favorite feline only to find out that he develops a taste for it and soon other untimely demises follow.
Robert De Niro: Angel Heart
Robert De Niro as the devil? Now, that is inspired casting! The actor is the mysterious Louis Cyphre who hires private eye, Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) to track down, singer Johnny Favorite. As Angel gets closer to the truth, his world is thrown upside down and we get to witness one of the goriest and most horrendous murders ever captured on the silver screen.
Dustin Hoffman: Outbreak
Considering the Coronavirus is everywhere in the news, how timely is this film? Dustin Hoffman stars as Army medical researcher, Sam Daniels who is dispatched to investigate a highly contagious and infectious virus. Can he find a cure before other deaths occur?
