Sam Raimi directs “The Golden Arm” in Quibi’s 50 States of Fright
Sam Raimi is back in the director’s chair with “The Golden Arm” episode of his Quibi series, 50 States of Fright and we have the teaser trailer!
Sam Raimi is back as an executive producer, writer and director on the original Quibi series, 50 States of Fright. Fans of the director have been waiting for this effort since we first reported on it back in 2018 when it was known tentatively as 50 States of Fear.
According to the Quibi website for the streaming service, Quibi will launch on April 6. The idea behind the brainchild of Jeffrey Katzenberg is the concept of “Quick Bites” or content made expressly for mobile devices. Most shows that will be featured on the platform will have a run time of 10 minutes.
What is really cool about Quibi is that the company is offering a free trial for 90 days! You can pre-order at the App Store or Google Play. Once you have signed up, you can have Raimi’s show delivered directly to your phone.
It comes as no surprise that he would be involved with a cutting-edge venture of this nature. The director has always been a pioneer. For Evil Dead, he created the Shaky Cam which was his equivalent of the Steadicam along with the Ram-o-Cam technique.

Another reason to be excited, this will be his first time behind the camera since he directed the Season 1 opening episode for Ash vs Evil Dead, “El Jefe.” Sam and his brother Ivan penned “The Golden Arm” which is a legend from Raimi’s home state of Michigan.
As the tale goes, a woman loses her arm when she is struck by a car. The man behind the wheel wanting to make amends, gifts her with a golden artificial limb.
Her husband, a man only concerned with making a quick buck, wants her to give him her arm. She refuses. An altercation ensues and he ends up murdering her.
He pays dearly for his transgression when she comes back from the dead to haunt him. We are amused with this storyline because it seems that Sam Raimi can’t stray too far from amputations and people coming back from the dead to wreak havoc on the living.
“The Golden Arm” stars Rachel Brosnahan, Travis Fimmel and John Marshall Jones.
