Quibi takes on the urban jungle with Most Dangerous Game trailer

The Most Dangerous Game starring Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz takes on the urban jungle in an updated dystopian adaptation from Quibi of Richard Connell’s classic short story.

The Most Dangerous Game trailer dropped yesterday from Quibi. Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz’s new action thriller is a series that appears to be a quasi adaptation of the classic 1924 short story by author Richard Connell.

This is the second live action production to base its premise on Connell’s tale. Blumhouse’s film The Hunt is also another take on the “humans as prey” theme.

Phil Abraham, who is known for his direction on hit shows like Daredevil, Mad Men, Ozark, Castle Rock, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and The Sopranos, will be at the helm and he knows his way around a good script. To give you an idea of what to expect from him, his work on the first episode of Daredevil, “Into The Ring” (which was not only a fantastic story), contained some seriously bold choices in direction, like the intense hallway fight scene.

In Quibi’s version of Connell’s classic, the jungle is replaced by the urban jungle. Instead of a bored game hunter pursuing another game hunter, we have young businessman, Dodge Maynard (Liam Hemsworth) who needs money to care for his terminally ill wife, and Miles Sellers (Christoph Waltz) who is more than willing to give Dodge the money, with one caveat; survive a deadly game where he will be the prey.

If you have not seen the commercials yet, Quibi is a new kind of “short-form” mobile video streaming platform, founded in 2018 by Hollywood legend Jeffrey Katzenberg. The new enterprise has partnered with heavyweight Hollywood studios such as The Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal, WarnerMedia, ViacomCBS and Sony Pictures.
