Watch as Russell Crowe becomes psychologically undone in the first trailer from his upcoming film, Unhinged.

Academy Award winning actor, Russell Crowe is having a monumentally bad day. Being stuck in a traffic jam isn’t doing wonders for his mood either.

In Solstice Studios latest effort, Unhinged, Crowe known only as “The Man” goes psycho after an impatient driver named Rachel (Caren Pistorius) cuts him off at a traffic stop. That was her first mistake and it may turn out to be a fatal one at that.

This thriller takes its cues from the 2002 Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson production, Changing Lanes about a game of road rage cat and mouse. Except Crowe’s performance is far more sinister than Jackson’s.

We don’t know what has triggered his behavior and that is what is terrifying. Much like “The Shape” in Halloween or Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th, we don’t have his origin story (as of yet) which just serves to make him exceedingly creepy and menacing.

What starts out as an incident that could be easily forgotten turns into a flat-out nuclear assault on Rachel and her husband, Andy (Jimmi Simpson) and son, Kyle (Gabriel Bateman). If only she had been courteous to Crowe, all of this could have been avoided. Instead she is going to have to be taught several “lessons.” Judging from what we can see, they will be highly unpleasant.

According to the press release, Unhinged will be the first new film to open in U.S. theaters in July. Of course, all state health and safety protocols will be followed.
