Horror streaming service Shudder has renewed its hit Creepshow anthology series for a third season, ahead of its second season.

When Creepshow debuted last October, according to Shudder, it “shattered all Shudder records,” leading the pack in total viewers and new subscriber sign-ups.

Rolling out one episode per week, with two stories per episode, the series kept viewers enthralled. The themes swung between dark humor, serious horror and, often, slimy gore. Many were based on stories written by notable authors such as Stephen King, Joe Hill and Joe Lansdale, while others were originals, written specifically for Creepshow.

The cast included horror icons like Adrienne Barbeau, Tobin Bell, David Arquette and Jeffrey Combs, with Greg Nicotero, David Bruckner and Tom Savini counted among the directors. Shudder really pulled out all the stops for their fun original series, and the feel of it was very much true to the original Creepshow movie released in 1982. For that movie, the great George A. Romero directed, and Stephen King wrote the screenplay. Trivia alert: the boy who played Billy, credited as Joe King, is the man we now know as NOS4A2 author, Joe Hill.

The level of talent and love that was poured into the series is evident in the rich color palette (akin to a comic book, naturally), the entertaining stories and the attention to detail that went into the special effects. All of that apparently paid off, and Creepshow just finished its first season run on AMC, which also owns Shudder.

Season two was a go, but like most entertainment, it was thrown off the tracks by COVID-19, and filming is on hold until production is allowed to continue in Georgia. Shudder appears very confident in the success of season two, and has already decided to order scripts for a third season.

Obviously, no premier date can be announced for the second season as of yet, let alone the third, but viewers will be anxiously awaiting the return of the Creep.
