Paranormal Activity was the film that put Blumhouse Productions on the map. Is there a possibility that Katie Featherston might return in the next installment of the franchise?

Paranormal Activity was released in 2009 by Blumhouse Productions. With a budget of $15,000, first time director, Oren Peli grossed over $193 M worldwide for the fledgling company. The film was a success and much like The Blair Witch Project before it, the found footage approach terrified theater goers.

For stars, Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, this was their first foray on the big screen. Playing a young couple who is stalked by a demonic presence in their home, the pair were extremely convincing which only added to the scare quotient.

After the success of the first Paranormal Activity, Katie appeared in the second, third and fourth installments of the franchise finally ending her run with The Marked Ones in 2014. A fan favorite character it comes as no surprise that in a recent interview with Fandom, Jason Blum was asked if he thought that she might reprise her character in the seventh film.

At present, the venture is still in development which isn’t surprising with the entire industry coming to a standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, the producer wasn’t very forthcoming with any details because he doesn’t know where the story “is going to land.”

However, he did admit that he loves Featherston as an actress and that “I hope we get to bring her back.” Since they are in the beginning phase of production, it sounds like there may not be a script per se because Blum admitted they weren’t that far along in the process and that they were talking about various details.

Since Katie was in five of the six sequels, it might stand to reason that she would appear in the newest incarnation which according to Slash Film has Christopher Landon assisting Paramount with setting a “new course for the franchise.” Paranormal Activity 7 is set for release on March 19, 2021.

"Paranormal Activity: Trailer #2While settling into her new home, Katie (Featherston) is disturbed in her sleep by a mysterious presence. Her husband, Micah (Sloat), tries to ease her fear by installing video cameras in an attempt to capture the strange behavior on tape. Bad idea."
