Interview: Zachary Quinto talks about American Horror Story and NOS4A2
By Carla Davis
1428 Elm: What else do fans of the series have to look forward to in the second season?
Zachary Quinto: I think it moves along at a real clip this season, we don’t have to spend any time establishing anything, we did that in season one. It kind of hits the ground running in a lot of ways, in a lot of really exciting ways, so I think we can get right to it, right? Between Manx and Vic, between Manx and Bing, I think we see all of the characters in these really new and interesting parts of their experience, and it’s really quite thrilling I think as a season as it goes on. I’m excited for people to come along for the ride.
1428 Elm: I remember the first season started out a little bit slow, and you had to kind of go along with it, but the second season just started off right away. We already know the characters, and I am personally really looking forward to it. How complicated is the makeup for the older Charlie Manx?
Zachary Quinto: Yeah, it’s complicated. I mean, I’m in the most capable hands in the business, basically Joel Harlow, Mitch Yolantes, Jules Holdren who did all the wigs, they’re some of the most talented make up and effects people working, so I feel really grateful for them, and we all got along really well. It was always nice to show up, even if it was like, four in the morning for work, to get into the process. Manx spends less time in those older ages this year, which I think is good, both for the story and for me, but they do such an amazing job that I was always happy to undergo the transformation for the character, and also for them to get a chance to do what they’re good at.
1428 Elm: Thank you so much for your time, I really appreciate it, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s going on this season, and I’m sure our readers are as well.
Zachary Quinto: My pleasure, thank you for your time, and stay safe.
Zachary Quinto has several projects coming up, including an announced role in a horror film called Abandoned and an as-yet untitled Star Trek sequel.
