SDCC 2020: Could Truth Seekers be Amazon Prime’s next hit?
Truth Seekers is a new Amazon Prime series about the world of paranormal investigations starring Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Could this horror comedy be the next hit for the network?
Truth Seekers is the latest effort from Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. The duo is known for the brilliant Cornetto Trilogy featuring Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Worlds End. This time around, they take on the world of paranormal TV for Amazon Prime.
According to Vulture, the pair hosted a panel as part of Comic-Con@Home where they discussed their approach to the new series. They wanted to make certain that their show was more of an homage rather than an outright parody of otherworldly programs.
Which is exactly the vibe you get when viewing the Official Truth Seekers Teaser. Gus (Nick Frost) is the lead investigator for a team of ghost hunters who become involved in a dangerous conspiracy. Enter Simon Pegg who might be a programming executive for a malevolent Sky type organization called Smile.
Judging from some of the scenes, devil worship might be involved and Pegg’s character, Dave might have something to do with it.
This premise sounds very much like Hot Fuzz where the town of Sandford is besieged by mysterious deaths and its up to Pegg as PC Nicholas Angel and Frost as PC Danny Butterman to solve why people keep being murdered. They uncover a dastardly plot with Wicker Man overtones.
Sometimes, actors will do research for their parts and Nick Frost is no different. He admitted to watching exorcisms on YouTube to prepare for his paranormal investigator role. Judging from the trailer, the various scenarios the group find themselves in like investigating hospital wards and creepy houses are very familiar to anyone who watches the Travel Channel on a regular basis.
Let’s face it, with the success of such series as Ghost Adventures, The Dead Files and Ghost Hunters, television viewing audiences have an appetite for the supernatural. So, it seems like a no-brainer that Truth Seekers will be successful.
