John Carpenter will be this year’s recipient of Fantasia Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Congratulations to the Horror Master!

John Carpenter will be honored by the Fantasia International Film Festival with a Lifetime Achievement Award. According to Deadline, the event will be held this year in Montreal between Aug. 20 through Sept. 2.

Numerous screenings are planned with Neil Marshall’s The Reckoning kicking things off. Attendees will still get to see the traditional short film showcase, live Q and A’s, and competition screenings virtually, in the comfort of their own homes.

Fans will remember that Carpenter was one of the first international guests at Fantasia back in 1998 for the premier of his film Vampires.  With his past participation, it is fitting that he would be recognized for his contribution to the world of film.

This isn’t going to be a normal awards ceremony however, Fantasia has a lot more in store for us. The horror master himself will host a masterclass covering his work, so you’ll get to spend Fantasia’s opening with the veteran director.

Carpenter’s work has had an undeniable impact on the genres of science-fiction and horror. Of course, the masterclass will cover all of his best productions, from Halloween to Escape from New York to The Fog and beyond.

It’s going to be one killer night! The multi-talented creator will also be performing his latest single, which if you haven’t listened to his numerous albums yet, you need to change that.

This unconventional approach to a well-known film festival like Fantasia will be the shape of things to come. Since COVID-19 has limited indoor gatherings for the time being.

Honoring John Carpenter is definitely the highlight of this cutting edge film festival. You can check out Fantasia’s schedule of events at this link.

Next. HALLOWEEN. dark

It should be noted that the films will be geo-blocked due to copyright concerns, but if you are lucky enough to live in Canada than you will be able to see all of the screenings. For more info on ticket pricing and other FAQs click here
