Nightstream: Genre festivals virtually unite for major event

Several genre film festivals have banded together to create Nightstream, a dynamic virtual event that will showcase short and feature films as well as live panels.

Congregating together in theaters and crowding into festival halls just isn’t safe anymore, or responsible for that matter. The show must go on though, in order to ensure that film festivals survive during the new pandemic norm.

We learn what is capable during these trying times. Hence, the creation of a major virtual event. Nightstream will combine the Boston Underground Film Festival (MA), Brooklyn Horror Film Festival (NY), North Bend Film Festival (WA), the Overlook Film Festival (LA), and Popcorn Frights Film Festival (FL) under one umbrella.

This new venture will feature individually curated short and feature film programming alongside live events and panels. Proceeds from ticket sales will be shared between filmmakers and artists which is a good thing considering making money is nearly impossible if your work isn’t able to be seen.

A certain percentage of sales will also be donated in the name of each individual festival to local charities and businesses in their respective areas to assist in relieving the financial burdens caused by the pandemic. Early bird badges can be obtained now.

Two options are available for potential festival attendees, a five film bundle and a ten film bundle priced at $55 and $90. This is a steal to have the convenience of a film festival in the comfort of your own home.

Nightstream runs through Oct. 8 until Oct. 11 making it a great way to start the Halloween season. Unlike Montreal’s Fantasia Festival which is geoblocked and only accessible to Canadians, this fest is for those residing in the United States.
