Melissa Barrera of the STARZ series, Vida is the newest addition to the Scream 5 cast. Who will she play in the latest film in the Wes Craven franchise?

Melissa Barrera who plays Lyn on the STARZ series, Vida has been cast in the latest installment of Wes Craven’s franchise. Deadline reported the Scream 5 news yesterday.

The actress joins David Arquette who will be reprising his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley. Courteney Cox is also portraying Gale Weathers again.

Neve Campbell revealed in May that she was in talks to return as Sidney Prescott. However, as of yet, no official announcement has been made.

So, it would appear that slowly but surely the film is coming together. The plan is for production to start in the fall in Wilmington, North Carolina and will wrap by the end of December.

What else do we know about Scream 5?

  • Kevin Williamson is involved and he will be producing.
  • Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Ready or Not fame will be directing.
  • The script is written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not).
  • According to IMDb, the plot of Scream 5 deals with a woman (more than likely Sidney) returning to her hometown to solve a series of vicious crimes. Sounds a lot like the plot of the previous film but maybe there is a twist.

How does Melissa Barrera fit into this plot? Could she be Ghostface’s new target?

What about Dewey and Gale? Are they still married? Will they end up tracking the killer with Sidney?

There are so many questions to be answered. Perhaps, more information will come to light as new cast members are added and the film gets closer to production.
