Shudder has given us an early first look at their upcoming Halloween schedule by announcing that Scare Me will be available to stream on October 1.

Usually Shudder would wait until the end of September to announce their October additions, but the early release of this information is a nice little surprise to be savored. Scare Me joins other Shudder Originals such as Host, Scare Package, Revenge and The Ranger on the horror streaming platform.

Scare Me premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January of this year shortly after Shudder acquired the rights, and the reviews seemed mostly positive. Described as a horror/comedy hybrid, the film features Josh Ruben as Fred, a copywriter who aspires to write his own horror novel. He decides to hide out in a cabin in the Catskills to begin writing, and while there, he meets Fanny (played by Aya Cash of You’re the Worst).

Fanny is a successful horror novelist, and the two new friends challenge one another to create scary stories while a winter storm is brewing outside. As they begin to spin their scary tales, they are joined by a pizza delivery man (Saturday Night Live’s Chris Redd), who just happens to be a horror fan.

Josh Ruben does triple duty on this film, since he also wrote and directed it. Though Scare Me is his feature debut, he formerly directed sketches for James Cordon’s The Late Late Show, and TruTV’s Adam Ruins Everything.

Shudder Original films have been largely successful for the service, with its recent Host being touted by viewers and critics alike. One Cut of the Dead, a Japanese zombie film was also very popular, and anthology film Scare Package recently debuted on The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. Scare Package includes seven short tales, each helmed by a different director.
