Taryn Manning, from Orange Is the New Black is about to take on the role of Karen in a brand new crime thriller. Are audiences ready for this experience?
Taryn Manning is known for playing Tiffany “Pennsatucky” Doggett for seven seasons on the hit Netflix series, Orange Is the New Black. When the show first aired in 2013, the network and audiences knew it was special.
OITNB was groundbreaking and was one of the first programs aimed at adults on the streaming platform. Critics loved it and in it’s first year, it was nominated for nine Primetime Emmys. Not to mention the fact that at the 23rd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, the cast won for best ensemble.
Not only is Taryn an accomplished actress on television but also in film as well. She played Nola in the 2005 Academy Award winning, Hustle & Flow starring Terrence Howard.
Now, she is set to star in what could be the role of a lifetime. TMZ reports that she has been cast in the crime thriller, Karen, playing a neighbor from hell.
The title of the movie is based on the current slang for a woman who is “obnoxious, angry, entitled and often racist.” From the brief synopsis of this new venture, the actress will be terrorizing an African-American family who are Black Lives Matter supporters.
It sounds like the 2008 production, Lakeview Terrace starring Samuel L. Jackson and Patrick Wilson. In that film, Jackson played an LAPD officer who didn’t approve of his new neighbors (Wilson and Kerry Washington). So, he set out to make the couple’s every waking moment a living hell.
As of now, Taryn Manning is the only actor on board Karen. The film is written and will be directed by Coke Daniels.
According to IMDb, Karen is expected to be released in the U.S. on Feb. 7, 2021.
