Netflix has announced the upcoming debut of Hubie Halloween, starring Adam Sandler. The Netflix Original will be added to the streaming platform’s always jam-packed Halloween schedule.

Hubie Halloween features not only Sandler, but a lot of other well-known actors as well. Julie Bowan, Ray Liotta, Steve Buscemi, Noah Schnapp, Maya Rudolph, Kevin James and Kenan Thompson all lend their talents to this spooky comedy.

Over the past few years, Netflix has done a great job of adding fun, new content for their subscribers at Halloween. Past original Halloween additions have included The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, The Haunting of Hill House and Malevolent.

Eccentric Hubie Dubois (played by Sandler) loves Halloween, and spends the holiday each year making sure all of the residents of Salem stay safe, while still having fun. This year, a new neighbor has Hubie on high alert and things are made worse when an escaped criminal is on the loose.

Hubie just knows that there are monsters in town, and that they are responsible for townspeople disappearing, so he does what every good citizen should do under these circumstances: He calls the police. Unfortunately, the local cops (James and Thompson) are very familiar with Hubie’s shenanigans and they don’t believe him.

It’s up to Hubie to save his hometown from impending evil and that’s not easy since all of his neighbors think he’s crazy. Can Hubie do it? You will have to tune in to Hubie Halloween on Netflix starting Oct. 7 to find out.

Looking at the trailer (which you can watch at the end of this story), Hubie’s character puts me in mind of Whitey Duvall, from Sandler’s animated holiday film Eight Crazy Nights. Both characters have distinctive voices (an Adam Sandler specialty) and both are ridiculed by the townspeople.

Still, they persevere and both have good hearts. And let’s face it, no one plays a lovable loser quite like Adam Sandler.

It all looks like the good, silly fun we usually get from Sandler. Hubie Halloween is being advertised as a “family film with an unlikely hero.” While we all like being scared on Halloween, it’s also fun to laugh, especially during a year like the one we are currently in!
