Shudder previously announced that Scare Me would be premiering on their streaming platform in October and now the full trailer has been released.

Shudder rolled out their 61 Days of Halloween schedule in September, leaving a few movies top-secret. One film that was not kept a secret was Scare Me, a horror comedy written and directed by Josh Ruben. Ruben also stars in the film, which was picked up by Shudder in advance of its premiere at Sundance.

Ruben previously directed sketches and episodes of television series such as The Late, Late Show and Adam Ruins Everything, as well as multiple tv commericals (mostly in the comedic vein). In Scare Me, he plays a frustrated copywriter named Fred, who plans a winter getaway to a cabin where he hopes to write his first novel. Sounds like a good idea, right? I mean, nothing bad ever happens in a cabin in the woods, especially during the winter time.

While jogging, Fred meets a published horror author named Fanny, who comes across as rather smug. A power outage leads to the two huddling together in Fred’s cabin. They end up swapping scary stories, and as they attempt to “out tale” one another, they are joined by a pizza delivery guy who just happens to be a horror fan.

Fanny is played by the very funny Aya Cash from You’re the Worst and The Boys, and Chris Redd of Saturday Night Live portrays the pizza guy. The trailer looks both funny and frightening, with the tales Fred and Fanny are telling seeming to come to life as they become more competitive.

The lighting has that same comic book look as the Creepshow series and Random Acts of Violence, which are both currently streaming on Shudder as well, and Ruben, Cash and Redd seem to have good chemistry. The film looks like it will be a lot of fun!

Scare Me begins streaming on Shudder October 1, and you can watch the full trailer here:
