Happy Death Day 3: Director teases title for third installment
Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon has unveiled the working title for the third film in the franchise, though the release date remains a mystery.
Happy Death Day One and All! No, seriously. While that may not be the official title of Christopher Landon’s forthcoming threequel, it is a hint, and it’s certainly true. Any day with Death Day news is a happy day for us all!
Unfortunately, Landon’s reveal of the third title in the franchise also comes with an asterisk: we don’t know when this follow up to Happy Death Day 2U will occur. In fact, it’s been placed ambiguously on the to-do-list by Landon, according to a recent interview with Empire, though principal work on the script has begun.
The 45-year-old filmmaker, who came to the forefront penning the Paranormal Activity series, revealed the next offering in the Happy Death Day universe had been placed on hold in favor of his new original project, Freaky, starring Kathryn Newton, Vince Vaughn and Alan Ruck.
“It’s definitely off to the side at the moment,” he admitted. But with no official release date in sight, Landon could only add: “Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.”
After this slight downer, the director was able to perk us all up with the revelation that the third film would contain a different conceit than the first two, dispensing with any Groundhog Day-like notions.
Suffice it to say, where the last two installments were set in the same day, the third film won’t be. Already, we’re intrigued! Landon went on to reveal the upcoming title for his future venture, Happy Death Day to Us.
Until Happy Death Day to Us becomes a reality, you can stream Happy Death Day 2U on Hulu, Amazon Prime, Google Play, YouTube and VUDU.
