Dana DeLorenzo made a big impression in Ash vs Evil Dead. Now she’s applying her comedic talents to the dysfunctional holiday comedy, Friendsgiving.

Fans of the glorious three-season run of Ash vs. Evil Dead know a big part of that show’s success – outside of Bruce Campbell and some delightfully over-the-top gore – were the “Ghostbeater” sidekicks, Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo). These characters held their own during sticky situations, while possessing a unique sense of humor that rivaled Campbell’s Ash Williams.

Now, fans of DeLorenzo can find her in the upcoming comedy Friendsgiving. Entertainment Tonight provided the scoop on this tale of holiday dysfunction:

"“In writer-director Nicol Paone’s debut, Abby (Kat Dennings) is actually looking forward to a low-key Thanksgiving with her best friend, Molly (Malin Akerman). She isn’t expecting to also spend the day with Molly’s cougar mother (Jane Seymour), cheating ex (Ryan Hansen) and new himbo boyfriend.”"

One of the highlights of the holidays is catching up with people you don’t see on a regular basis. I’ve never participated in a Friendsgiving celebration, but have heard mostly positive things from those who have (after all, unlike Thanksgiving proper – with its focus on family – you get to pick and choose who comes over). It will be interesting to see how Paone mines humor from the diverse cast of characters walking through Akerman’s door.

In addition to DeLorenzo, the ensemble is intriguing for their proficiency in horror and comedy over the years: Hansen appeared in Veronica Mars and the remake of Friday the 13th; Dennings made her name with 2 Broke Girls and will play Death in the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. Meanwhile, Akerman starred in the much-beloved sentimental slasher comedy The Final Girls, while Christine Taylor made impressions in Zoolander and The Craft.

I’m thinking our Kelly will be right at home – and hold her own – among this group of talented and funny folks.
