Patrick Wilson to perform double duty on Insidious 5
By Carla Davis
Actor Patrick Wilson will be returning for Insidious 5, but this time he will be filling two roles, as announced by Blumhouse.
When Insidious 5 begins production, Wilson will of course be reprising the role of Josh Lambert, but he will also be taking the helm as director. Although this will be his directorial debut, Wilson is no stranger to horror films.
In addition to appearing in the first two Insidious films, he played famous paranormal investigator Ed Warren in The Conjuring, Annabelle Comes Home and The Conjuring 2 and will be playing Ed in the upcoming The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It. He also appeared in the 2005 thriller Hard Candy, alongside Elle Page and in Bone Tomahawk with Kurt Russell.
Joining Patrick Wilson in Insidious 5 will be actor Ty Simpkins, who played his son Dalton. Dalton set up the events in The Insidious when, as a little boy, he fell into an unexplained coma. Afterward, the entities from The Further tried to enter his body as a way to return to the corporeal world.
Insidious premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010, and within 12 hours of its initial screening, the distribution rights were picked up by Sony Pictures. It ended 2011 as one of the most profitable films of the year and was nominated for multiple awards, winning Best Horror Film and Best Supporting Actress (Lin Shaye) at the Fright Meter Awards.
The third and fourth films in the series were actually prequels, focusing on the backstory of Elise, the psychic who attempts to help the Lambert family.
Insidious 5 will be set ten years after the events of part two, when the character of Dalton is a college student. The new film will be produced by Blumhouse, Insidious creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell and Oren Poli.
Patrick Wilson pronounced himself to be “honored and thrilled” to be directing and starring in Insidious 5, adding that he was grateful to be able “to tell this frightening and haunting story. Into The Further, we go…”
