15. Octavia Spencer in Halloween II

Year of release: 2009

Character played: Nurse Daniels

This isn’t about the original Halloween movies. We’re looking at the reboot attempt of the franchise during the 2000s, starring Scout Taylor-Compton.

Octavia Spencer turns up during the second movie in the reboot. The interesting thing is that her character may not be a real character within the world. She’s only seen within a dream sequence, and she is killed during that dream sequence.

Also, the nurse’s first name is Octavia. Was that a sign that she isn’t part of the real world within the universe? Or was it just because the character was such a small part that she ended up with the first name of the actress?

Another interesting thing is that Nurse Daniels’s murder is used as the cover for the movie. And yet, you’ve completely forgotten Octavia Spencer had that role.

Most actors like to hide the past when it comes to horror movies. Spencer has owned her history. Saturday Night Live fans will have had a reminder about her appearance in Halloween II back in 2017. Her opening skit involved all the nurses she’s played up to The Help, which landed her an Academy Award. “She got stabbed bad,” she commented about Nurse Daniels.
