22. Leonardo DiCaprio in Critters 3

Year of release: 1991

Character played: Josh

Wait, Leonardo DiCaprio was in a horror movie? And you forgot all about it? Oh, yes!

Okay, I’ll admit that when I went through my obsession of DiCaprio movies and shows, I did know all about Critters 3. I even watched it and laughed rather than got scared the whole way through. It’s not the greatest of horror movies out there, which is why the majority of people have completely forgotten this movie even existed, let alone who was in it!

It’s the third installment in the franchise, with DiCaprio playing the role of Josh. The year of release should give it away that he was a kid at the time, and he’s part of the family that brings the tiny fur aliens to an apartment building without realizing it. Like in Gremlins, the tiny fur creatures end up reproducing at an alarming rate, but they’re not just there to cause chaos. The fur aliens eat all the tenants in the building.

DiCaprio nearly didn’t end up with the role. It was originally going to The Princess Bride’s Cary Elwes but he turned it down.

The movie ended with a cliffhanger allowing the story to wrap in the fourth movie in the franchise, which filmed straight off the back of this one.
