Horror movies you won’t want to watch alone: 17. Insidious

When it comes to brilliant horror movie actors, Patrick Wilson has really made a name for himself. And while we might often think of him as Ed Warren in The Conjuring franchise, in Insidious, he is actually a father whose son has fallen into a mysterious coma, which turns out to be something much more sinister.

This movie started off so brilliant and frankly terrifying in many ways, and while some might say that the ending leaves much to be desired, it is still brilliant laid out for us. After all, we are talking about a child being used as a vessel for possession and his parents doing their part to save him. And it doesn’t stop there.

Insidious takes us on a journey that includes traveling on astral planes of existence, including one called The Further, where the son has accidentally gotten trapped. And when the father does his part to save his son, things do not go as planned.

While some might not appreciate the twists and turns that wraps up this story (this is the first movie in a franchise, so the story isn’t exactly over, even though the movie itself is), I know that when I watched the ending of this movie I jumped. (In fact, if you ask the person I watched this movie with, I actually shrieked a little.)

There was something very fresh and fascinating about the story and the way it is told, making it one that deserves to be watched, at least with company in tow.
