Horror movies you won’t want to watch alone: 14. You’re Next

Much like The Strangers, You’re Next is as much a thriller as it is a horror movie. And once again, we are watching as masked individuals arrive with murderous intent.

Unfamiliar with this movie? This 2013 release gives us an upper-middle-class family that has actually been estranged. However, the parents want to change all that and that means inviting their children and their partners home in an effort to celebrate a wedding anniversary.

While things start off difficult with the family, once masked assailants show up with crossbows, they need to come together before they are all picked off one by one. Perhaps the thing that really sets You’re Next apart from The Strangers is the method in which they are terrorizing this family and even the masks themselves, as these attackers are using creepy animal masks to hide who they are.

This movie was actually quite a bit scarier than The Strangers, because this is an intentional and planned out the attack. But really, it is the twists and turns that really make this story pop. And you don’t know what’s coming, and neither does this family. After all, crossbows and impalement are on the menu, and this family wasn’t prepared for all of that.
