Horror movies you won’t want to watch alone: 13. The Crazies

Take science fiction and mix it in with horror and you have The Crazies. In this thrilling horror, we get Timothy Olyphant (who I will watch in just about any movie or show) as the sheriff of a small town that finds itself the victim of an unknown, but dangerous toxin. This toxin leaves the otherwise peaceful people of this town as nothing more than bloodthirsty monsters out to kill each other.

Authorities looking to contain the toxins and prevent the spread of infection blockade the town, leaving even those who are seemingly uninfected trapped in what is basically a death town. Along with his wife and some friends, the sheriff finds himself trapped in a town filled with killers who no longer seem human at all, and it is a race to save themselves, even as the rest of the world has forsaken them.

With The Crazies, we get a film that is terrifying because it actually seems possible, after all, it’s an unknown toxin that is causing these shifts and changes in people. And anytime something is man-made in a movie, it feels like it could really happen outside of a movie. Plus, we have seen how chemicals can impact our planet (Chernobyl anyone?), so that adds a level of believability to The Crazies that makes it a must-watch horror experience.

Plus, taking a science fiction movie and crossing it with a thriller and a horror movie and you end up with a terrifying watch that you won’t want to watch by yourself.
