Horror movies you won’t want to watch alone: 12. Hereditary

Honestly, when I first watched Hereditary I can admit that there were moments where I was bored, but by the end of the movie, I was so glad I was not alone while watching this one. Not only were there some truly horrifying moments just in general, but the final maybe 30 minutes of this movie is so messed up that you won’t want to be alone at all.

In fact, I have never been able to watch this movie again for multiple reasons, including the entire storyline around the daughter/sister, which was both tragic and just wow. There are no words for what happened with her and the fact that she plays a major role in the final moments of this movie was shocking.

For anyone who has not seen Hereditary, I refuse to give anything away if possible, so I will just say that there certain moments in a movie that sticks with you long after the film is over and you have gone on with your life, and this movie has one of those. (And it is not just about the visuals, it is also the sound effects.)

The beauty of this horror movie is how it took the dark drama of a family, hidden secrets that are truly sinister, and then brought in so much grief that it was palpable on the screen, and then gave it a supernatural horror twist. Combine that with the brilliance of Toni Collette and you have horror movie magic.

This is not a movie to watch alone. And be prepared to remember this one for a long time to come.
