Horror movies you won’t want to watch alone: 4. Devil

M. Night Shyamalan is making another appearance on our terrifying horror movies list. This time with his 2010 offering, Devil. Anytime you have a movie focusing on the Devil himself, it feels like you are going to be scared. But perhaps what makes this movie work is the fact that it is all about your personal beliefs and the atmosphere that is created by the filmmakers.

After a man kills himself after jumping from a 35 story skyscraper, we learn that he believes that the Devil is coming. Not long after his death, an elevator filled with people gets stuck. A technician trying to fix the elevator is nearly crushed by another elevator, and a security guard monitoring the elevator sees a face in the monitors that he believes to be the devil. However, no one believes him.

In the elevator itself, the lights flicker and things start happening that leave everyone suspicious of each other, and marks and blood add to the suspicion. However, as weird things start happening inside the elevator, it soon becomes clear that more is going on in the building than we could have imagined.

Soon it becomes clear that the people in this elevator are not good people and it seems that they are being slowly picked off one by one. As each person’s story is revealed, it becomes clear that the devil is coming to collect. Even as the people outside of the elevator do what they can to try to stop the death and destruction, it is impossible to look away.

This is a movie about evil and belief. It is so hard to watch in some ways and in others, it was hard to look away. But definitely don’t watch this one alone.
