Horror movies you won’t want to watch alone: 28. The Conjuring

While there is something to be said for the first movie in a franchise or series being the best, I think the original Conjuring movie is actually one of the less scary entries in the series. However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t still cause us to jump or cover our eyes (that only happened once, I swear).

Perhaps the scariest aspect of The Conjuring is the fact that it is based on real-life people and events. In fact, it is said that the haunting portrayed in this movie is actually based on the actual Amityville Horror haunting.

With a haunted home that has a history of child sacrifice and suicide, is it any wonder that there is a malevolent spirit lingering? And that means we need to call in Lorraine and Ed Warren, a married couple known for their work as demonologists. However, it doesn’t take long before we learn that the spirit haunting the house can not only possess people in the home, but it even takes over the demonic doll known as Annabelle, which has recently arrived in the Warren home.

This movie is filled with moments that are scary and shocking. And knowing that this is based on actual events that have happened in real life, just adds another layer of terror that makes it clear you should not be watching this alone.
