Horror movies you won’t want to watch alone: 27. Wrong Turn

I will admit right now that the first Wrong Turn movie from 2003 is definitely the best of the entire franchise. (Although, I did just learn that another addition to the franchise was released in Jan. 2021, so maybe there is another solid addition to the franchise.) And yes, I can admit that this is more of a slasher movie than anything else. But some of the best horror movies really are slasher flicks.

For me, the reason that Wrong Turn should not be watched alone is because the idea of being attacked and murdered in the mountains is the kind of nightmare a lot of people can relate to in some way. After all, many people have a fear of something bad happening when you are in the middle of nowhere with no way to get help. (Or maybe that’s just me.)

With Wrong Turn are fears are realized as a group of people find themselves being picked off one by one in the backwoods of West Virginia. From a couple being murdered (or at least we see one murder and one barbed wired kidnapping) while rock climbing to a cabin with body parts that is the home of a family of cannibals, this movie is terrifying in all the best ways.

The fact that it plays on legitimate fears that people have and then pushes them to the extreme makes this movie one that you should definitely not watch while you’re alone, especially if you ever want to go on a road trip again.
